Guangzhou Port has carried out its first green methanol bunkering operation for an international container ship at the Nansha Port Area, adding a terminal delivery to its earlier anchorage-based operation. Ship & Bunker reported that the Cosco Shipping Carnation received about 300 mt of the fuel during the transfer on September 28.
The bunkering vessel Daqing 268 supplied the methanol at Nansha Container Terminal Phase II, according to Guangzhou Port Authority, as cited by Ship & Bunker. Before delivering it to the container ship, the bunkering vessel loaded the fuel at the Nansha Hongda Storage Warehouse. The subsequent transfer between the two vessels used a ship-to-ship pipeline system.
The terminal operation means Guangzhou’s green methanol bunkering services now cover both terminal and anchorage locations. The reported milestone concerns the port’s supply arrangements: the receiving ship had already taken on methanol on several occasions at Yantian, another Chinese port. Its Nansha delivery therefore adds a new bunkering location to the vessel’s reported methanol fuelling history.
Guangzhou’s first anchorage-based green methanol delivery took place on September 6, when Daqing 268 supplied 1,021 mt to Greenfuture. The same bunkering vessel thus handled both of the port’s reported September milestones, with the anchorage operation preceding the container-terminal transfer. The roughly 300 mt supplied to Cosco Shipping Carnation was a smaller delivery than the earlier stem to Greenfuture.
Cosco Shipping Carnation is a methanol dual-fuel container vessel with a capacity of 16,000 TEU and an 11,000 m3 methanol storage tank, Ship & Bunker reported. The September 28 operation brings together the Nansha warehouse loading point, Daqing 268’s ship-to-ship delivery and the Phase II container terminal in the port’s latest reported green methanol supply operation, following the establishment of its anchorage service earlier that month.
