Clean Caspian, a startup backed by investment from Alkagesta, has completed the first phase of its development and is moving into Phase II, according to an update published by Alkagesta. The initiative is developing chemical technologies for tackling oil spills in marine environments. Alkagesta said the Phase I milestone had attracted coverage from international publications spanning science, energy and industry.
The update identifies two technologies, Oil-Collecting Reagent 1 and Flocculant-Coagulant 1. In its summary of reporting by The European, Alkagesta described the chemicals as intended to contain and disperse marine oil spills. That coverage considered the environmental damage associated with spills and the potential application of the technologies to pollution incidents. The source presents these applications as a development objective rather than detailing an operational deployment.
Phase II will concentrate on further optimisation of both formulations, additional testing in new environmental conditions and progress with the patent application process, Alkagesta said. The next stage therefore covers both continued technical development and intellectual property work. The update does not give a timetable for completing that phase, or disclose performance measurements from the first stage of development.
Alkagesta also highlighted coverage by Science World Report, which it said focused on the initiative’s commercial ambitions and the industry’s responsibility to address oil pollution. According to Alkagesta’s account of that article, oil spills generate nearly $3 billion in environmental damage worldwide each year. The figure was cited as context for the clean-up initiative, rather than as a measure of Clean Caspian’s potential commercial value.
Separately, Alkagesta said Nefterynok had reported the completion of Phase I alongside the company’s receipt of an EcoVadis Committed Badge, linking the developments to its broader environmental, social and governance commitments. Its update also listed coverage by Ship.Energy and Azerbaycan Muellimleri, presenting the range of publications as evidence of growing international media interest in Clean Caspian.
