Alkagesta said support from its banking partners exceeded US$1 billion in combined banking facilities and trade finance lines, in an account of its Banking Partners Summit in Malta on 2 October. The company described the financing as a basis for further expansion of its global commodity trading business and operations in Malta.

The full-day gathering took place at Alkagesta’s Malta headquarters. According to the company, attendees included representatives of financial institutions from Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria, the United Kingdom and Malta, as well as clearing partners and local industry and government stakeholders. Discussions covered commodity trading, trade finance, risk management and compliance, alongside Malta’s position as an international trading centre.

The programme combined presentations at the company’s offices with a visit to the Evos Malta terminal and discussions with its management. A gala dinner followed, which Alkagesta described as an opportunity for participants to develop professional relationships and discuss potential collaboration. The account did not identify the participating banks or provide a breakdown of the financing support by institution.

Alkagesta linked its banking relationships to transparency, regulatory compliance and prudent management of risk. It said international bank support helped it carry out trading strategies within its governance and control framework. The company also highlighted the contribution of clearing partners, whose services, market access and risk coverage support the execution and hedging of its trades.

In its account of the discussions, Alkagesta presented Malta’s European Union membership, regulatory framework and financial services infrastructure as advantages for international commodity trading and trade finance. It also pointed to the island’s developing network of logistics and storage operators. The company characterised the summit as reflecting an interest among banks, clearing institutions, terminal operators and local stakeholders in longer-term partnerships to support trading activity and Malta’s wider role in international commerce.
